VAS SkyHammer is an omnidirectional antenna with RHCP or LHCP polarization depending on the variant, a SMA connector and a gain of 5,25 dBic for the 5400-6100 MHz band. It is intended primarily for the receiving side, such as FPV goggles, groundstation or a diversity receiver and works with both analog and digital video transmission in the 5.8 GHz band.
The gain is unusually high for an omnidirectional antenna. SkyHammer consists of two patented Minion Pro antennas, which are precisely phased and impedance matched. By stacking and phasing („stacking and phasing“), unused radiation above and below the antenna is pushed out into the horizontal plane, where the model actually flies. The result is full 360° coverage in the horizontal plane with a vertical range of ±20°. The measured axial ratio of 0,94 means pure circular polarization, thanks to which the antenna more effectively suppresses reflections and signals of opposite polarization. The design is protected by patents US10608346 and US10916837.
The antenna is mounted with the elements vertically. In this position, a strong, low-angled beam is formed in all directions. On a diversity receiver, it is suitable as an omnidirectional counterpart to a directional antenna: the directional antenna provides range and signal penetration through trees and buildings, while SkyHammer covers the immediate surroundings, takeoffs and landings.
