XF Z-2Mini is a compact 3-axis gimbal with an integrated 4K daytime camera and thermal camera with a resolution of 256×192px. The camera is particularly designed for use on advanced drones with Ardupilot or PX4 firmware. The camera with the gimbal weighs 110g and can be mounted on smaller 7" drones. The power supply can operate at a voltage range of 10–26.4V. Installation can be done with the camera facing down or up as needed.
The daytime camera uses a 1/2.8" CMOS sensor with a resolution of 3840×2160 and a fast lens of f/1.0. The imaging engine AI-ISP provides color images even at night in poor lighting conditions and the AI-HDR function preserves details in highlights and shadows under high scene contrast. An 8x digital zoom is available. The thermal camera with an uncooled Vanadium Oxide sensor (NETD <50mK) has a 10mm focal length lens and can detect a person at distances over 400m. The gimbal additionally offers AI detection and tracking, capable of autonomously tracking a selected person or vehicle in the frame.
Stabilization is provided by a 3-axis non-orthogonal mechanical design with two temperature-controlled IMU sensors. Angular accuracy reaches ±0.01°. The range of motion is from -110° to +120° in pitch and ±140° in yaw, with a maximum rotation speed of 150°/s.
The Z-2Mini gimbal can be controlled via Ethernet connection, UART, or S.BUS. The gimbal supports a private protocol and MAVLink, which is used in conjunction with ArduPilot and PX4 autopilots. Video is streamed via RTSP (H.264/H.265) at resolutions up to 4K@30fps, with recordings stored on a microSD card of up to 256GB. The image can be viewed and controlled using Dragonfly software, and for full integration with open-source autopilots, XF-QGC software is used. OSD information can be overlayed onto the image.
The package also includes a set for active cooling of the gimbal unit.
